Our dear Elizabeth is in stage 5 chronic kidney disease or end stage renal failure; her kidneys are functioning at around 10-15%. Over the past year, she has been completing the necessary steps to qualify for a kidney transplant. It’s a long and complicated process where they test and evaluate every single part of your body to make sure you’re healthy enough for a transplant. The last step -- where she is now -- includes addressing any dental problems that have the potential to cause an infection. Between this expensive dental work, travel expenses for surgery and other medical visits in Seattle, taking a pay cut to go on medical leave, and the rising price tag of being a parent/person in Bellingham, costs have been piling up.
We are putting out an urgent call for financial support. Please give what you can, even if that's just a small amount. And please share this. We know how loved and connected Elizabeth is, and how she shows up for her kids and friends, and now we need to show up for her.
Elizabeth is also getting ready to start dialysis this year. In preparation, she has to get an arteriovenous fistula put into her arm. She's having surgery next week for this. It would be great for her to head off to this with one or two fewer things to worry about.
