Brent and Danielle are two of the hardest-working, most resilient people I know. They never complain, even when life throws curveball after curveball. Danielle works so hard and lives a very active life, something I admire about her since she was diagnosed 18 years ago with juvenile (type-1) diabetes. But after a string of heartbreaking setbacks, I want to rally our community to give them the boost they deserve. They’re about to welcome their first child in October, and a little financial help could mean the world—allowing Brent to take time off to be with his family without fear of losing his primary job, and perhaps give him the resources to finish launching his own property service company. Brent and Danielle's story started with so much promise. After years of dating through ups and downs, they tied the knot in 2021 and moved to Wiggins, Colorado, to build their life together. They were excited for a fresh start, investing in their home and future. But almost immediately, bad luck struck hard. A well-publicized wildfire tore through their area, destroying tens of thousands of dollars worth of brand-new fencing they'd just installed. It was devastating—not just the loss, but the hope they'd poured into making their property a true home. To make matters worse, their insurance company refused to cover the damages, claiming it didn't qualify. Then, like so many Colorado residents, their premiums doubled overnight, pushing their budget to the brink and wiping out any chance to save or rebuild quickly.

Determined to turn things around, Brent dove into work. He's been hustling in Northern Colorado territories, consulting with me on window cleaning, pressure washing, and even Christmas light installations. To support his growing business, he bought a Ford Expedition to tow his trailer full of equipment. But just a short time into owning it, disaster hit again: a part of the drive shaft came loose while he was driving, shredding the transmission and sending debris flying into a neighboring vehicle. The repairs were astronomical, and now their other family vehicle is showing serious electrical issues, leaving them without reliable transportation at a critical time.

Amid all this, the emotional toll has been immense. Danielle, who has lived with juvenile diabetes since she was a young adult (this isn't the kind that can be managed with just diet—her pancreas stopped producing insulin entirely), lost her beloved horse of nearly 15 years to a gruesome and painful colic. That horse wasn't just a pet; it was her emotional anchor, helping her navigate the social and physical rollercoaster of her diagnosis during her formative years. Danielle has always been a fighter—she's climbed the ranks at Adventist Hospital and Children's Hospital without a college degree, working tirelessly to provide for her family. Then, their dog Joey, a loyal companion, passed away from a stomach tumor, adding another layer of grief.

Now, as they prepare for their greatest joy—the arrival of their baby boy in October—more challenges have emerged. Danielle has been managing a high-risk pregnancy alongside her diabetes, requiring constant monitoring and care. Recently, she was diagnosed with early-onset preeclampsia, though thankfully it's asymptomatic so far. She's still working hard, but the stress is real. Brent wants nothing more than to be there for her and their newborn, but he's worried about taking FAMLI leave because it could mean losing his current job. On top of that, with the baby coming, he won't have the time to devote to building his business—pressure washing, window cleaning, and holiday lights—that could finally give them stability.

Through it all, Brent and Danielle have stayed strong. Brent is quiet and steady, always putting in the hours without a word of complaint. Danielle is the same—positive, dedicated, and focused on the future. I'm so proud of their work ethic and how they've supported each other. But they've been hit with one setback after another: fires, insurance woes, vehicle breakdowns, heartbreaking losses of pets, and now health complications during what should be the happiest time of their lives. They deserve a break—a chance to breathe, bond with their new baby, and launch the business Brent's been dreaming of.
