Rakkasan Beer

For most of us, it was a lifetime ago ... For those who were there, it can seem like only yesterday!

In May of 1969 during the American Vietnam war, US soldiers from the renown 101st Airborne Division fought relentlessly for ten days to wrest control a non-descript mountaintop in a remote jungle of Vietnam from the battle hardened 29th NVA regiment .

After suffering horrendous casualties including many KIA, these exhausted but determined American soldiers drove the enemy from this mountaintop.  The lead unit throughout this battle was the storied 3rd Battalion of the 187th Infantry - the Rakkasans! The mountain they fought so valiantly and tenaciously for was known to the Vietnamese as "Dong Ap Bia", on military maps as hill "937".

To these Rakkasans, it became known as "Hamburger Hill"

In May of 2019 on the 50th Anniversary of this notorious battle, these soldiers will be honored at a major reunion celebration in Clarksville, TN outside of Ft. Campbell, the home of the 101st Airborne Division "Screaming Eagles."

Ohio Veterans, Inc. a 501c3 veterans advocacy group along with the Endeavor Brewing Company of Columbus Ohio have created a unique and   special brew of "Rakkasan" Red Ale to be packaged in beautiful and highly collectible 50th Anniversary Hamburger Hill commemorative cans.  Ohio Veterans, Inc will be donating this beer for this celebration to honor these heroes of the battle of Hamburger Hill.

Ohio Veterans, Inc is accepting donations for this project to honor and remember these Hamburger Hill soldiers.  All proceeds will be applied to the actual cost of the beer and its transport to Clarksville Tn from Columbus OH.  Any funds raised in excess of the cost of the beer and its transport will be contributed to the 187th Family Readiness Group at Ft Campbell.. Rakkasan families are encourage to donate in honor or memory of their Rakkasan loved ones.
