The Covid-19 crises has affected many millions right across the globe - and the Cayman Islands are no exception. Tourism comprises over 70% of Cayman's GDP. Our borders have been closed for many weeks now and the border closures appear to be set to continue for many more months. The upshot - the local economy is nosediving and many people are out of work with no means to support themselves.
While we've all been in lock down with the curfew here in Grand Cayman, I've taken to raking the beach by my condo at the Villas of the Galleon. It's been quite the revelation - a fantastic workout for me with the added benefit of keeping our beach pristine... the pine leaves from our trees fall continually - so raking the beach is something that needs doing every day. And I love it so much now, I rake twice a day - at sunrise and at sunset ...
On a recent morning rake an idea sprang to mind ... given the challenges and struggles that many people are going through here in Cayman with the pandemic, perhaps raking the beach could be a fun way to raise funds to support those in need. And this is where the idea of RAKE 4 RELIEF came from.
I would like all funds raised to be donated to Acts of Random Kindness (ARK) here in in Grand Cayman. Their Covid-19 relief program for the needy and vulnerable is Feed Cayman 2020 .
So why donate through me? Because for every pound, dollar or euro you donate, I will match it, so effectively your donation is being doubled.
If you live in Cayman or have visited this beautiful island, then I hope my RAKE 4 RELIEF campaign resonates with you. All donations will be very much appreciated. My aim to to raise £5,000 (GBP) and I will match that with my contribution of the same - and together we raise a much needed £10,000 for Acts of Random Kindness (ARK) to put to good use. I have no idea if we will reach that target, but if we do, please do continue donating and I will keep raking away - let's make this happen!
So there we have it .... I get on a fun path to a level of fitness, the beach looks amazing every day and most importantly ... we raise much needed funds for the vulnerable and those in need here in Cayman. And the world is hopefully that little bit happier ...
