Medical Supplies 4 Ghanaian Hospital

Hello Donor!
If you don't already know.. I'm Derana. A recent graduate from Brown University with a Bachelors in Health and Human Biology and a sub-focus in Women and Children's Health. I am passionate about healthcare and am always looking to make a difference in the world.. one step at a time!
This winter I'll be going to the city of Kumasi, located in Ashanti Region of Ghana, West Africa. I will be working at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, the largest hospital in Kumasi. While there, I will be assisting in the hospital's Department of Family Medicine, under the mentorship of the Head Physician of Family Medicine,

As an integral part of the Kumasi health care system, this hospital needs a lot of help. Therefore, I would like to involve you! All my amazing friends and family, to make a difference in the Ghanaian health care system.
My goal is to raise about $1000 by December 5th. This will help me provide this hospital with some basic medical equipment such as ophthalmoscopes, otoscopes, TENS machines, pulse oximeters, stethoscopes and thermometers. All raised funds will go towards medical equipment!

This campaign means the world to me because it is helping a country I hold dear. My father is from the United States, but my mother is from Ghana. When I was six years old, my parents uprooted our family and moved us all to Ghana. Thus, although I am American born, I grew up in Ghana and owe who I am to the my African family, culture and heritage.

I also learned from an early age that the Ghanaian healthcare system has always been in serious need of aid. I have had my own experiences with the often unfortunate conditions of Kumasi hospitals and it has been something I never managed to get out of my head or out of my heart. As such, it has sparked my desire give back through this campaign.
Throughout the campaign, I will be updating all of you with pictures of the equipment I gather, the hospital, my journey and the incredible Ghanaian individuals you will be helping with your donation!
Thank you for everything you do and I look forward to having your support!

Warmly,
Derana
