Raising money to transform healthcare in Cambodia

Hello, my name is Alice. I am a second year Paediatric student nurse at Teesside University.

I have been chosen along side 11 other nursing students to travel to Cambodia in partnership with Transform Heath care Cambodia charity.

The trip will take place in June for 18 days. During this time, myself and other student nurses across all fields will be volunteering in hospitals in Cambodia such as Battambang Hospital and Roka Community Hospital to make a positive change to the healthcare system over there. The help we provide will be clinical and educational as the charity strives to educate our Cambodian colleagues, as well as supporting those in rural areas.

he Khmer Rouge regime which took place from 1975-1979 was one of the worst mass killings of the 20th century, claiming the lives of over 2 million Cambodian people and taking the country back to ‘year zero’. Hundreds of thousands of educated people were tortured and executed and anyone thought to be an intellectual of any kind was killed. The entire health care and education system was destroyed leaving an estimated 10 doctors to care for around 7 million people.

The entire healthcare system was destroyed. The effect of this is still felt in Cambodia today and the majority of the population still have very limited access to healthcare.

Donations from this page will be used towards making this once in a life time trip possible, with any excess being donated directly to Transform Healthcare Cambodia.

I feel extremely privileged to be able to take part in this trip and work alongside Transform Healthcare Cambodia to make a difference.
