Raising money to replace a treatment chair
“A hand up, not a hand out,” is the ethos that underpins Helping Hands and they are committed to doing all they can to support people who are homeless or vulnerable to fulfil their ambitions, or find them.
Their breakfast service and soup kitchen, often the first point of call for their service-users, provides much-needed meals but can also be a springboard to a broader, brighter future.
I've been supporting their breakfast service for a few occasions now and I've been welcomed with open arms by EVERYONE, service users, staff and support staff.
One of which is a dedicated Homeless Health Clinical Nurse Specialist who talked me through how she supports the centre's service users by carrying out health checks, dressing wounds, taking blood and accompanying people to GP appointments which to us would seem like an everyday task without thought. But for someone who is homeless and vulnerable, there is an instant barrier to accessing healthcare, one which the rest of us don't ever experience. And all of this is done from a small room above the centre, with a broken therapy bed which is far from ideal.
So, I'm calling up my network of friends and asking if anyone would kindly like to donate a few quid so the centre can have a new treatment bed.
And, if we act quickly enough and raise the amount needed then a brand new bed can be purchased online for the bargain price of £369 (plus delivery, reduced from a whopping £899!!!!!).
We all know how fortunate we are to have a support network of people we can turn to if times ever get hard, but for some in society, it just isn't there.
Regardless of anyone's back story, EVERYONE deserves to be treated with respect where it is given and basic endeavours such as access to healthcare and support are a given right.
So, if you can spare a few quid then please do.
Thanks in advance and big love
