I am participating in my school's annual Centurion event to raise funds to support my church's food bank and free cafe scheme called Souper Friday.

I have been training this spring in preparation, including a 37 mile training walk. Souper Friday run a free cafe every Friday to encourage people to meet together, chat, and enjoy a bowl of soup together as well as providing food for those who can't afford to buy their own with weekly deliveries also provided by the food bank.

The Centurion event is a long-standing tradition of Beechen Cliff School Bath and is completed across 3 days. On Friday participants start from the front door of school and head down to the canal path at 1600, walking 21 miles along the canal path to camp on this side of Devizes. There they have dinner and set up their sleeping bags and mats in a large marquees the teachers have put up. A 0500 wake up call on the Saturday leaves just enough time to get some porridge down before departing from camp at 0600. Participants then walk 28 miles to St Lawrence's church in Hungerford along the canal path reaching the door of the church, 50 miles down, before returning another 28 miles back to camp hoping to arrive before the 2100 cut off. Along the route, check points every 6-7 miles provide water, and a lunch of sandwiches is provided at the church. The final part of the challenge is Sunday morning, waking up at 0500 followed by a rushed breakfast in preparation for the final day, a 0600 start on the canal and with 21 miles left back to school, participants have until 1600 to make it back to the front door of the school, to complete the challenge to become a Centurion!
