Hi, I’m Sean.

For those who don’t know, I am doing Ironman Austria 2026.

WHY’

Even though it started off as a chat between friends it became much more than for me.

For years I always wanted to complete something that was physically and mentally hard in memory of my Nan. This seemed the perfect opportunity to do both.

And for those who know me, knew how close the relationship was between me, Grandad and Nan. However, not many knew the story of what my Nan dealt with for the duration of my life.

So here is her story. Betty Matthews or Nan as I knew her was so incredibly unlucky to have had an operation not go the way she would have wanted. This left her with life changing problems whereby mobility was non existent - I can’t remember ever seeing my Nan walk… she hobbled and got about in my early years but as she got older this quickly became harder till she was eventually bed/house bound.

Even after all this, she was later diagnosed with a terminal Brain Tumour. We was so grateful for the support we received for her. As you can imagine we was devastated but Nan as she always was, took it in her stride. She continued to be this incredibly inspiring woman that guided our family, never complaining or feeling sorry for herself.

She smiled, gave advice, LOVED and was the matriarch of our family. What she showed me I will carry with me for rest of my life.

The reason I’m sharing her story is - she is my WHY.

So now I’m trying to juggle training, a full-time career, social life and navigate life - I can’t moan, I can’t complain because I have NO EXCUSE.

So I’m raising money for The Brain Tumour Charity in Memory of my amazing Nan. Doesn’t matter how big or small the donation is, anything given is hugely appreciated and will go into helping an amazing charity!
