Raising funds for Phase 2 of our much needed Roof Renovation

Hi, My Name is John Barber and I'm one of the Church Wardens at St Marks Church Chadderton. We are in urgent need of roof repairs and the last full quotation was over £180,000. We have raised enough to complete phase 1 which was the bell tower which we finished in February 2025, as it was in the most dangerous state. We are now trying to raise funds for Phase 2 which is the Lady Chapel Roof.

With such high funding targets, we feel we are struggling to raise the urgent funding through small events such as tea parties and are trying to think bigger.

As such, I am proposing to attempt a Sponsored walk on the 27th September starting at Ladywell Shrine, Preston and walking to Whalley Abbey, Clitheroe and finishing at Sawley Abbey, in Clitheroe. As a bit of fun Ive named the Walk wheres Whalley and the Walk Details are as follows

Section 1

Set off 9:00am Ladyewell Shrine to Whalley Abbey 23Km approx. 6 Hour Walk.

Arrive at Whalley Abbey 3:00pm

30 Minute Break

Section 2

Set off 3:30pm Whalley Abbey to Sawley Abbey 16 Km. 2hr 45min Walk
