Important Update from Beehive Community Food Hub
Dear friends and supporters,
Since we began the Beehive Community Food Hub, our mission has always been to make sure good food doesn’t go to waste and reaches families who need it most. Over time, we’ve seen incredible growth, and today we’re helping around 50–60 families every evening with fresh produce, bread, and other essential groceries.
To keep this vital service sustainable, we’ll be introducing a small contribution of £2.50 per visit, starting this month.
This hasn’t been an easy decision, but it’s one that we’ve been left with no choice but to make. At the moment, we have an outstanding balance of £4965 for our Fairshare Membership, and unfortunately, the £5 membership charge hasn’t been enough to cover these costs. The additional food we provide and the running expenses have been coming out of my own pockets.
We’ve been funding the hub ourselves without external support, but recently we were informed that if the outstanding balance for the Fairshare Membership isn’t cleared by the 11th of this month, we may lose access to that membership. Personally, I’ve already contributed £200 towards this amount to help reduce the pressure, but we still need everyone’s understanding and cooperation to keep the Beehive going.
This decision hasn’t been made lightly. It comes from a place of care and responsibility — to ensure we can continue providing food and support for as many families as possible, three times a week, with the same quality and variety we’ve all come to rely on.
Even with this small change, Beehive remains one of the most affordable and generous community food initiatives in the area. Every penny collected goes directly towards food and running costs — none of it is for personal gain.
Thank you all for your understanding, kindness, and continued support. Together, we can get through this and keep our community strong.
With heartfelt gratitude,
The Beehive Team
