So this year I have been very privileged to have been sponsored to play rugby by FIGHT BACK MENTAL HEALTH. A organisation that means something personally for me. And a organisation that helps so many people from all walks of life week in week out. As a way of me saying thank you and paying thier kindness and generosity forwards i have decided to raise some funds to help them continue the great work they do. I have decided to walk the Jurassic coastline in may 25. The aim is to cover the 95 miles from Exmouth to old harry rocks (Swanage) in 3 days.
Here is some more information about fight back to mental health.
Fight Back Mental Health is a boxing group aimed at the mental health community based out of Weymouth Amateur Boxing Club. It has been running every Monday morning since 2014 and has seen over 1500 people either try boxing for the first time or reignite their passion for the sport.
Fight Back Mental Health was set up by Lewis Chambers, Vaughan Fellows and Matthew Rees who all work in mental health alongside Weymouth boxer Colum Siddons, they all had the vision that boxing has huge benefits on people’s mental health, they have seen people gain confidence, reduce anxiety, get stronger as well as learn some boxing skills.
Since starting with 2/3 people attending the group has gone from strength to strength and now has regular groups attended by 15 to 20 people, Fight Back has strong links with local NHS teams and well as local mental health charities such as the Dorset Mental Health Forum and the Lantern. They also have the team from Muntsys join them once a month, which further shows Fight Back’s model that boxing is for everyone.
Fight Back is currently a community interest company, with a hope that they can soon be a registered charity, any donations received the team supply workout attire (t-shirts, vest, hoodies and gloves) for their group regulars as well as sponsorship for people to join Weymouth ABC and other local sports clubs.
Fight Back Mental Health runs every Monday morning from 10:30am until 12 at Weymouth Boxing club, if you’d like any more information, please email [email redacted]
All monies donated will go towards the groups future work within the community.
