Fundraising for Rowans Hospice in memory of Sue Reader

Donation protected
On Thursday 9th April 2026 Mum passed away peacefully at the Rowans Hospice in Waterlooville.

Mum become poorly in May 2025 and in the September, she was diagnosed with incurable Kidney cancer.

Mum started her first round of chemotherapy in the December, however this followed with the development of Steven’s-Johnson Syndrome which unfortunately made her very poorly.

Following hospital stays, we got Mum home, where we cared for her for a few weeks, before we started the next chapter at the Rowans Hospice.

Upon being told Mum had only a matter of days ahead of her, she was keen for Dad and the 4 of us to remain by her side at the hospice. Little did we know she would continue to fight and we spent 16 nights at her side.

The staff at the Rowans found us a spare room, this room used to be for families to stay in, however the sofa bed had been broken. They did not hesitate and provided us with mattresses to sleep on. Being able to stay so close by provided us all with so much comfort.

The time at the Rowans, despite being incredible difficult, allowed the 6 of us to make memories we will all treasure forever.

We were made to feel so welcome at the Rowans and the support they already provided to families in our situation is phenomenal. The care they gave Mum was invaluable, they genuinely cared.

During mums stay she was keen to donate money to the Rowans, she was so grateful of the support. This lead on to the 4 of us deciding, we would raise money for the charity.

We cannot thank the Rowans enough for even the smallest of things. They kept us in tea, coffee and biscuits throughout. Nothing was too much of an ask.

The funds that we are hoping to raise through donations and sponsor’s, will hopefully be used to continue to improve the family room and enhance the general facilities for families who find themselves like us at the hospice.

This will be a team effort, (Dad has said he does not intend to do any crazy skydives) but Dad, the 4 of us, her grandchildren and the wider family & friends hope to do her proud.

We have no expectations for people to donate, but even the smallest of amounts, go some way in supporting this amazing charity. The hospice is a registered charity who rely on donations.

We are also suggesting, for those considering sending flowers for her funeral (05/05/26 1pm) that you consider kindly donate to this amazing cause through this go fund me instead.

Love and regards - The Reader family x
