Raise money for the National Tremor Foundation

Hey everyone!

So to provide a little bit about this fundraiser, This year me and my Dad have been working closely on a very personal and powerful collaborative project as part of my final year studying Photography at the University of Derby. Our project is all about raising awareness for a condition he struggles with that has deeply affected his daily life in the past called Dystonic Tremor.

Dystonic Tremor causes involuntary shaking, especially in his head and hands and is often misunderstood or overlooked. As his daughter, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges it brings but also the resilience and humour with which he meets them. That’s why this project means the world to both of us. Our goal is to show others living with tremors that they are not alone, and that life can still be full, joyful, and creative, with just a few adjustments.

We are aiming to raise some money in support of the National Tremor Foundation (NTF), an amazing charity that offers advice, support and a sense of community to people living with all types of tremor. Donations will go towards support groups, awareness campaigns, and vital research that helps improve lives. Many people don’t seek help simply because they don’t know where to turn due to the lack of awareness and your contribution could change that.

Our project, A Man Beyond the Movement, combines visual imagery and storytelling to explore my Dad’s daily struggles and lived experience. Through double exposures and slow shutter speeds, I have captured some of the everyday activities like shaving, drinking, or unlocking doors that can feel daunting for someone with a tremor. Alongside these photographs is a poem we wrote and spoke together, set to soft guitar music my Dad has played that echoes his old love for playing before the tremor progressed. My project shows his strength and is a reminder that even though a condition like this may feel that it's in control, the tremor does not define him and he is so much more than that.

Thanks to the National Tremor Foundation, I’ve received materials to help raise awareness during my Degree Show Exhibition on Friday 6th June at 6PM. I would love to give something back to them for the support they have show, not just to me and my Dad but to so many others navigating similar journeys as him.

If you are able to donate, share, or even just read our project story, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts
