Raise it for Rohan
Just over a week ago, the bright, funny, outgoing Rohan, at 8 years old, was taken to hospital with a sore tummy. Today his parents received a diagnosis of Burkitt lymphoma for his illness and he started his first round of chemotherapy.
Rohan is the most wonderfully funny little boy, and even in the midst of the worst possible outcome, has remained a bright light in the darkest of times.
In the last few weeks, Rohan had been complaining of a sore tummy and doing some unusual things. His wonderful mum and dad knew in their heart something was not right. After taking him into hospital, they were told his appendix had burst and that it was causing a mass on his bowel. Everyone felt a sense of relief that some antibiotics and a little procedure would have him back to health in no time. Within days doctors realised the mass was not reducing and the antibiotics weren’t helping. A biopsy of the mass on his bowel showed what was every parents worst nightmare. It confirmed Burkitt Lymphoma, the fastest growing cancer. Today Rohan started his first round of chemo. He did it with an amazing outlook knowing he had to “beat the lump”.
Rohan’s parents Kate and Mike, are perhaps the most supportive, strong and motivated people you would ever meet, and while they remain incredibly optimistic for Rohan to fully ’beat the lump’, you can only imagine the struggle that they will face in the coming months. They have had to put their careers as school teachers on hold, not to mention bills, mortgage, travel and housing their dog! They will be living in Ronald McDonald house for the foreseeable future as they watch their brave little man endure something no one ever should.
So many people have already been in touch to offer any support they can, this is a platform for them to do so in the most practical way.
We know Rohan will ‘beat the lump’ and make an absolute full recovery. This will support them on their journey to that place.
