Not very many people know about the devastation Black Mold Sickness can cause. Sadly, our family has found out the hard way. It can make you so sick you can’t function, the mold spores can infiltrate everything you own. Black mold sickness can change everything.

Hello, my name is Dustin York. My wife Krystal and I have 5 beautiful children. Avie-14, Paisly-13, Story-9, Moses-5, and Jovie-2. I can't tell you how hard it is to reach out for help. So many times we have started to share our story with others but were met with guilt or embarrassment. We created this page in December of 2022 but never could bring ourselves to let everyone see into our painful situation. Most of our family and friends are unaware of the hell we have been living through for the last few years and just how exhausting and extensive it has been.

Two and a half years ago we moved into a rental property and were unknowingly exposed to toxic mold. This was a silent issue that has taken its toll on our family’s health, mental state and relationships. To properly heal we had to get rid of all of our belongings to start fresh. This was a very difficult thing to do for our family of 7 but we would rather have each other and be healthy than have "stuff" and continue to be sick. All of the memories and belongings we lost were only replaced with memories of what it was like to live healthy full lives. It has exhausted every last penny of our savings to get our necessities but we are so grateful for what we do have.

Mold can affect people differently. I had a chronic cough and constant back pain that both subsided slowly after moving out. The children were mostly affected by coughing and a symptom called mold rage. It is exactly what it sounds like. Coming home immediately caused them to be in a constant state of anger with each other. This issue was the strongest with our son Moses who already struggles with PANS.

The person that was most affected is my wife Krystal. Being a mother of 5 is already exhausting but having a compromised immune system has made life even more difficult. On occasion, she feels good enough to get out of the house. On other days she is bed ridden and cannot even swallow anything except water. She has now had to resort to a liquid-only diet because of the extreme dysphagia. She has gone from a mother and wife full of life and energy to a broken human that is barely able to survive. She is barely able to take care of herself, much less run a household of 5 children. The symptoms are extreme and extensive. Chronic fatigue, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, extreme brain fog, recollection issues, decreased ability to learn new knowledge, vision loss, vertigo, sensory issues, night sweats, mood swings, excessive thirst, frequent urination, level 1 dysphagia (trouble swallowing), kidney pain, heart palpitations, chest pain/burning, suffocating feeling, hormonal imbalances, blood sugar issues, thyroid condition, adrenal fatigue, inability to cope with stress, stuck in fight or flight, lack of motivation, suicidal thoughts, joint pain, morning stiffness, noise sensitivity, light sensitivity, abdominal discomfort, bloating, digestive issues, multiple chemical sensitivity (mcs), chronic inflammation, weight gain, extremely itchy skin, constant cramping, irregular cycles, dizziness, dissociation/derealization, inability to process trauma/pain, dairy sensitivity, push-crash syndrome. Without proper treatment, this illness can cause Cistic Fibrosis, respiratory failure, seizures, diabetes, kidney failure, liver cancer and many other chronic illnesses. Feeling this way for so long has also taken a toll on her mental health but we are optimistic that things will improve when she begins treatment.

The medical industry is very vague when it comes to mold toxicity so none of the tests or treatments are covered by insurance. The funds we raise will be used to help pay for treatment at a clinic in South Carolina that specializes in these specific issues. Depending on how her body responds to treatment we are expecting her first visit to be around two weeks long. The money we raise will also be used to help Krystal travel to and from the facility. It is around a 17-hour drive from our house and she is unable to make the trip alone. We know this journey might take time and we hope you would search your heart and consider helping. Any amount helps. If you are unable to give please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers as we work to rebuild our health and our lives together.
