South Coast Yoga for displaced children in Gaza
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Monica, I am from the South Coast of NSW and I’m raising money for displaced children in Gaza to receive the gift of Yoga through the wonderful initiative that is Al Jawad School for displaced children in Gaza strip. The initiative is the idea of Hadeel Al-Gharbawi, Hadeel Al-Gharbawi is a journalist from the Gaza Strip who decided to establish an educational tent and is now preparing to establish a number of tents in different areas of the governorates of the Strip such as: the Gaza Strip, Al-Nuseirat, Khan Younis and Al-Zawayda. She is not committed to one educational place but rather to different places in order to support the largest possible number of children.
After teaching yoga to children for over 15 years, seeing these children receiving the gift of yoga brought me to tears. Here in the west I feel many of us feel helpless in face of the suffering these children are experiencing. This feels like something we can do as a form of active hope for some peace and relief from trauma and grief beyond comprehension.
This Go Fund Me page is here for the collective South Coast Yoga and Wellbeing Community to use for fundraising and awareness. So please go ahead and create your own events etc.
This fundraiser will be open for the month of July, upon which time the page will be closed and all funds sent directly to Al Jawad Camp. A copy of the receipt will be shared here.
The school is an opportunity for children in the camp to have meaningful daytime activities, including Yoga, while receiving emotional support from psychologists, learn languages, maths, kindness, be taught essential skills such as hygiene to increase their survival chances in these times of diseases and epidemics. They will learn kindness towards animals as well.
They are also raising funds for backpacks for the children, to pay the teacher’s wages, and as you know everything in Gaza has become very expensive. They still need to install toilets for the children as well. These essentials are often forgotten but are very important in a camp where children lack the basic necessities.
They want to buy a printer to print papers and exams for children, and need to provide clean, pure water for the children to drink, in addition to that they wish to provide school chairs for seating during school hours, and establish more than one educational camp in more than one governorate.
Establishing an internet line and buying computers is another goal they would love to accomplish. When this school is finished, they want to build a school in each tent camp in Gaza.
