Hi, my name is Sam Denly, and I’m raising money for the truly inspirational Olivia Neale, Natalie’s cousin.

Many of you will know that I’ve struggled for years with alcohol and all the chaos that comes with alcoholism. After 18 months sober, I made the mistake that so many do and picked up that first drink again. Fast forward a few years, and once again alcohol had taken over my life.

I’m now committing to three months sober for Olivia, with the aim of raising as much money as possible for her and her family.

Late last year, Olivia was diagnosed with stage-4, incurable brain cancer. Overnight, her life was turned upside down. She was faced with an impossible decision: whether to undergo brain surgery to try to prolong her life — a decision no one should ever have to make.

The operation was extremely high-risk, with a real chance she might not survive it. But with incredible bravery, Olivia went ahead with the surgery and made it through.

On top of that, Liv has chosen to donate her brain to King’s College Hospital to help research this devastating form of cancer — another selfless and courageous act.

Liv is married to Mark, and together they have a beautiful young daughter, Sienna. I want to help raise as much money as possible for them during this unimaginably difficult time.

The truth is, this is just the beginning of my sober journey.

When I think about what Liv is going through, the idea of picking up a drink again feels unthinkably selfish. This challenge will help keep me on the right path, and if it also allows me to make even a small difference to Liv and her family, then it will be worth it.
