Hi my name is Elly and I'm currently in TY in Our Ladys Terenure.

This June, I’m lucky enough to be travelling to Kenya for two weeks on a volunteer trip along with 30 other girls in my school. While we’re there, we’ll be helping out in a local primary school by improving their facilities and raising money to support the school. We’ll also be volunteering at an animal conservation centre, where we’ll get to help with important conservation work and learn more about protecting wildlife.

Two years ago students from my school went on this same trip, and hearing about what they did really inspired me. They helped build desks for the students, built new classrooms, and donated important school supplies like whiteboards and workbooks. They also spent time with the children, taught them how to play Gaelic football and hurling, and created memories that both sides still talk about.

I think it’s easy for us to forget how lucky we are to have proper classrooms, books, and basic resources every day. Even something as simple as having your own desk or your teacher having a whiteboard can make such a big difference. I would love to be able to help in any way I can and make even a small positive impact.
