Support 3rd Annual Skates for Plates Food Drive
Donation protected
Hello, our names are Miller Finkelmeier and Ben Ferraro, and we’re reaching out to ask for your support for a project close to our hearts. Together, we organize the Skates for Plates food drive, which benefits the Daily Bread Community Food Pantry in Collegeville, PA.
We began Skates for Plates in 2022, when we were freshmen at Pope John Paul II High School and teammates on the Valley Forge Colonials hockey team. Our goal was to combine our love of hockey with a desire to help those in need in our community. Each year, we run the food drive at Center Ice skating rink in Oaks, PA, where we connect with the hockey teams and families that come through the rink every week.
In our first year, we were able to collect 294 pounds of food, which provided 245 meals for those in need. In our second year, thanks to expanded outreach and more convenient donation options, we collected over 400 pounds of food—translating to over 330 meals. Additionally, Daily Bread informed us that they were in desperate need of personal care and household items. With the funds collected, we were able to purchase and donate over 550 essential items like deodorant, shampoo, laundry detergent, and disinfectant spray.
All in all, our combined efforts resulted in 794 pounds of goods collected in our second year, making it our most successful drive yet! Now, in our third year, we are launching a GoFundMe campaign to help grow this initiative and continue meeting the increasing needs of our community. Every dollar donated will go directly to purchasing essential food and personal care items for those in need.
Thank you for skating along with us on this journey!
