Rainbow Valley Plea
My name is Gemma, and I am the sister of Johanna Macvicar.
Experiencing the loss of a child is unimaginable, and having a close friend who initially offers support only to betray that trust by stealing from a charity established in her memory is a profound injustice my mum has faced.
I created this page to address the recent news surrounding the charity Rainbow Valley, which has been affected by a family friend's fraudulent actions, resulting in the theft of over £85,000. This individual opened a separate bank account, misleading donors to contribute to it instead of the official charity account.
Rainbow Valley holds deep significance for me, as it was founded in honor of my sister, Johanna, who dedicated her life to helping others. After her passing in 2005, my mum and this so-called friend established the charity in 2012, unaware of the betrayal that would follow.
As a cancer charity, Rainbow Valley provides essential support to individuals facing a cancer diagnosis, and you can learn more about their impactful work on their website, www.rainbowvalley.org.uk.
I have been actively involved in fundraising and supporting this charity since its inception, and witnessing this betrayal has been devastating. Despite the conviction of the perpetrator, we remain uncertain if Rainbow Valley will recover any of the stolen funds.
The charity aims to establish a center for those affected by cancer, but acquiring land for this purpose is costly. Nevertheless, they are committed to utilising their available resources to deliver vital courses, as they currently have over 100 individuals on a waiting list.
My mum has tirelessly worked to create this legacy for my sister, and we refuse to let this setback deter us, so I am reaching out for your support. Please donate what you can.
