Radical Home Project: A Space for Solidarity and Art
Donation protected
Hello, dears! Thank you for your interest in our project Radical Home.
In a world where migration crises, exclusion, and systemic oppression are becoming more prevalent, we are creating the Radical Home — a space where a home is not just a shelter, but a place for solidarity and mutual aid.
*Radical adj "originating in the root or ground;" of body parts or fluids, "vital to life," The basic sense of the word in all meanings is "pertaining or relating to a root or roots," hence "thoroughgoing, extreme."
The word “home” refers to a village or estate where many “souls” are gathered. It implies there's a physical dwelling involved, but the main idea is that it's a gathering of people.
Radical Home is more than just a place; it is a center for culture, exchange, and activism that supports people displaced by war, violence, and social injustice. Our project aims to create a nurturing and inclusive space where marginalized and vulnerable groups can find safe space, support and courage to continue.
What Are We Doing?
- We are building a network of mutual care and support, focused on:
- Cultural and artistic projects that serve as important tools for integration and self-expression
- Community work, searching ways of how to be together?
- Creating the alternative space, in a horizontal, non institutional way, where everyone is welcomed
- Our doors are open to anyone facing the challenges of migration and social isolation. We believe that a home can and should be a place for solidarity, not isolation.
Here is our manifesto:
RADICAL HOME MANIFESTO
Radical Home is a response to the crises of displacement, exclusion, and systemic oppression that define our world today. This manifesto redefines the idea of home as a radical, collective, and political space.
Home is not static. It is not simply a private refuge, but a dynamic and relational space where struggle meets survival. For those exiled by war, migration, and systemic violence, home becomes a site of resistance—a collective act of restoration rooted in shared values and mutual aid. Radical Home is a network of care, a hub for solidarity, performance, art, and activism that transcends physical boundaries.
Historically, home has been weaponized—a site of patriarchal, colonial, and capitalist oppression. Yet, within its confines lies the power to resist. By reclaiming home as a collective and transformative space, we subvert systems of control and create new possibilities for belonging and equity. The ethics of care help us to do so, and to reframe home as a space of interdependence and compassion. In this space, care is not a private or passive act; it is a radical, collective responsibility that defies the alienation of capitalist systems. In a world where traditional structures fail the displaced and marginalized, mutual aid becomes an act of survival and resistance.
Performance, art, and activism disrupt dominant narratives, fostering connections and amplifying the voices of those silenced by systemic inequalities.
Performance art plays a vital role in the Radical Home project, in the sense that it opens spaces for dialogue and transformation. Performative acts represent tools of resistance, disrupting established power structures and amplifying marginalized voices. Through workshops, and public performances, Radical Home fosters a culture where artistic expression becomes a means to resist and reimagine the world.
Radical Home is a call to action, a call to rethink belonging. It urges us to build networks of care, prioritize inclusion, and engage in collective activism.
The current cultural landscape in France is facing an unprecedented crisis. The global budget for culture has been severely cut, first by the national government, and then by local institutions following suit. A particularly striking example of this is in L'Hérault, the department where Montpellier (our project's base) is located. In an unprecedented move, the local government announced that they would slash their cultural budget by 100%, essentially eliminating support for all non-mandatory cultural and educational projects.
Furthermore, the Montpellier Metropole has also made the decision to drastically reduce the number of funded projects and to merge cultural institutions, all of which leads to an overall reduction in grants for the cultural and artistic fields.
In this precarious situation, Radical Home aims to fill the gap left by the diminishing institutional support for culture and the arts. Our initiative not only addresses the urgent needs of marginalized and displaced communities but also contributes to the cultural richness and resilience of our region.
How Can You Help?
Our goal is to raise €10.000 to create and sustain the space, programs, and activities of the project. Your donations will go towards:
- Renting the space.
- Organizing cultural programs, open for everyone for free, for example:
Movement for mental health workshop;
Performative research laboratory with the group of queer refuges focused on exploring the rituals that help us stay safe;
Performance nights: space to present the work-in-progress of emerging artists, receive feedback from the audience, exchange with other artists;
Atelier of sharing the experimental artistic practice;
Discussions and round table;
Poetry in exile: reading sessions;
Support groups: once a month
Creating the zine, as the alternative media.
- Providing financial support for our team.
- Developing the long-term infrastructure for the sustainability of the project.
With your help, we can create a space that will serve the needs of everyone — those who need it most and those who are ready to make a difference.
We cannot change the world alone, but together we can create a space where everyone has a place, regardless of who they are or where they come from. Your contribution will help us create a home that acts as a beacon for displaced people and all those striving for justice and equality.
