Rachel's Home at Risk After Storm Damage
Donation protected
update: this gofundme along with contributions on other platforms have met our goal! Thank you all for coming together to support Rachel and James ❤️
Friends and Community- We are reaching out today to ask for your support for Rachel Bass. If you're reading this you likely know her commitment to those around her, and her ability to always show up for others, no matter the circumstances. Rachel and her husband James need collective support to raise $4,000 by March 20th in order to ensure they do not have to go to court and potentially lose their home.

In August 2022, Hurricane Ian caused significant roof damage to their home. They didn’t qualify for FEMA assistance, and the insurance payout she received only covered a small fraction of the repair costs. Then things got more complicated in March 2023 when James was hospitalized with a serious foot injury and couldn’t work for over a month. The insurance payout they were counting on for repairs was instead used to get by during that time. By January 2024, the tarp they had put up on the roof was ripped off in a storm, and the ceiling collapsed. They managed to scrape together enough money to have the roof replaced in July 2024, but unfortunately, the roofing company’s poor communication led to a lien being placed on their home, and they are now being sued for the remaining amount. While they’ve made significant payments, they still owe $4k, and this debt is tied to the same $10k+ they had to pay out of pocket when James was unable to work earlier. Things were already tight, but in November, Rachel and James had an unexpected $2k car repair, and in December, James was hospitalized for a serious MRSA infection, keeping him out of work for six weeks. He’s just returned to work in February, but it’s clear they won’t be able to recover quickly enough to avoid going to court.
Rachel has always been there for others in our community, and now it’s our turn to be there for her. Any financial support you can provide to help cover the remaining roof costs and avoid further legal complications would make an incredible difference. If you can donate, share this request, or offer any other kind of support, it would mean the world to Rachel and to all of us who have benefited from her work. Let’s make sure they have the support they need to keep going—just as they have always supported us.
With gratitude and solidarity!
