Race for Eli-College Fund
Donation protected
A few weeks ago, our close friend Eli Abeles passed away after a year-long battle with metastatic renal (kidney) cancer. Many of you on this email knew Eli, but for those who didn't, Eli was friends with my wife Michelle for the better part of two decades--they grew up near each other and went to college together--and since I met Michelle almost a decade ago, I would often see Eli, his wife Stacy, and their two children Aaron and Jonah when we visited Michelle's family in St. Louis.
We have been thinking of something we could do to in his honor, and this is what we came up with: On Oct. 14th, I am going to run a half marathon on Staten Island, and I am going to use it as an excuse to raise money for a college fund for Aaron and Jonah. I'm calling it my Race for Eli. Before I began training for this, I had never run more than 6 miles; I've never run an organized race in my life.
Eli and Stacy established a 529 tax deferred college savings plan for each of their boys and they have been depositing money from birthdays and other milestones. I'm hoping we as a community can give that fund a big boost.
Thank you so much for your generosity,
Reuben
P.S. Just so you know, if you do give money, the site automatically asks you to give a 'tip' to support GoFundMe. You can change that 'tip' to $0 if you want. That 'tip' doesn't go to the college fund.
