The friends and family of Beth Holmes are starting this campaign to help her with
having a kidney transplant. Beth is 58 years old and lives in Myrtle Beach,
South Carolina, with her Goldendoodle, Sailor.
She has lived gracefully with cystic fibrosis and has outlived her life expectancy by
decades, thanks to her grit and a life-saving lung transplant in 2002. Although she
was unable to return to her work as a nurse, her lung transplant gave her the breath
to resume some simple things she loves: visiting with her mother and sister, traveling, exercising, spending time with friends, attending services at Ocean View Baptist
Church and walking her dog.
The immunosuppressive medications she takes to keep her lungs healthy have
severely damaged her kidneys. This is a cruel tradeoff for lung transplant recipients.
Beth has been grateful for her incredible gift of donated lungs for two decades while understanding that her kidneys might fail one day. That day has come. In September 2021, Beth was given the devastating news that her kidneys had completely stopped working. She would need a kidney transplant to survive. Since then, she has been
going to a clinic for dialysis three days a week for several hours a day, all while
maintaining her positivity and sense of humor.
A woman of faith, Beth once again is prayerfully trusting that her life will be saved.
Not only does Beth need a kidney, but she will also need emotional and financial help from her community. The estimated cost for Beth’s kidney transplant is $450,000.
The price includes pretesting, surgery and medications. While her insurance will pay 80% of the surgery, her out-of-pocket costs will still be $100,000. She'll be making
the 400-mile round trips from Myrtle Beach to Duke University Hospital for the
transplant and after-care visits.
If you can donate, no amount is too tiny, or you may consider getting tested to see if you could be a donor. Beth appreciates any support and prayers. Her faith, power of prayers, family and friends have kept her living.
Give so others can live and empower people to create happiness!
