Love for Lux

Three years ago I had the honour of meeting Carson and Maddi— a couple who’s love story was out of movie and who you only wanted the best for. Two bright lights, on the cusp of bringing in their third bright light. I knew these two would be the very best parents when I witnessed them bringing their daughter into the world. Carson held space strongly, and lovingly for Maddi, who championed for hours so presently and bravely and dedicated.

I wish this was the last time that this family had to climb such a steep mountain, but the last few years have been really hard on them. They have bravely championed through life with a very sick daughter, soloing days which have turned into weeks, and months in a hospital in the middle of a pandemic, desperately seeking answers.

I remember the day Maddi called me and told me she was pregnant (again!) There was a renewed sense of hope, excitement and joy for their family that they very much deserved. It wasn’t long after they received the heart breaking news Hayven, their son had a form of Trisomy that took him from our world far too soon.

This beautiful family has been through so much, too much for one to go through without the help and support of a community rallying for them. 21 hospitalizations later, Lux will need genetic counselling (likely through the states because the wait list is so long here) ongoing physio, occupational therapy, speech therapy and extended hospital stays, not to mention all the little costs of eating out while in the hospital, travel and time off work to care for a medically complex child.

-Service Dog 500/month 2 years = 12,000

-Therapy 4 services 480/wk x 48 weeks = 23,000
