Hello! My name is Julie, and on 6/30 my friend and I drove out to support our local vendors!
We came across a paletero named Miguel and offered him as much as we could, but unfortunately we couldn’t buy him out. As we were sharing information for him, ICE vehicles drove by us, and we told him.
Fear arose and he immediately told us that he had to go home. Running all the way home in the scorching heat, we stayed right behind him to help him feel safe. As we pulled into the neighborhood, he invited us to meet this parent’s.
Miguel is around 40 years old, and is the only person who supports for his disabled mother, and father, who is diagnosed with dementia.
When we met his mother, and we all shed tears of sadness, joy, and relief. As we talked with them for an hour, our hearts grew fonder and fonder for this family, and we feel that it is right to show him support any way we can.
Our goal is to raise money so that Miguel can stay home with his parents, and to lessen the load of paying rent. Thank you so much for learning about a story of another immigrant family.
UPDATE
We learned that Miguel has missed his rent payment for the month of July, but thankfully we were able to donate what we raised for him :)
We are in close contact with them to offer any future support needed :)
Sincerely,
J & K
