Complications began to appear for Karim until I had to take him out to Egypt for treatment on the 93rd day of the war.

I want to go back to my previous life. مرحبا أنا بسمة شعبان من غزة... أم لأربعة أطفال كمال وكريم وشوقي ومسك... كان لدينا بيت جميل ودافئ. حتى 7 أكتوبر، تم قصف منزل عائلتي، واستشهد أخي وزوجته وأطفاله الأربعة... واستمر القصف والدمار حتى غادرنا منزلنا الجميل مع أطفالي، وكانت هذه حقيبة نزوحي الوحيدة.. .. في الواقع لدي طفل بطل مصاب بالسكري من النوع الأول، عمره 5 سنوات، ذهبنا إلى خيم النازحين في جنوب قطاع غزة. توقف عمل زوجي وتوقف مشروعي الخاص الصغير، وهدمت الحرب منزلي ودمرته بالكامل. تحطمت كل أحلامي وأحلام أطفالي. لسوء الحظ، فقدنا كل شيء. استمرت الحرب واستمرت حياة النازحين في الخيام مع أطفالي: جوع، عطش، برد، خوف، قهر... ونقص الأنسولين. وبدأت المضاعفات تظهر على كريم حتى اضطررت لإخراجه إلى مصر للعلاج في اليوم الـ93 من الحرب.
