Help My Family On A Small Disability

Hi, my name is Mallory Jones. I live in Swansboro, NC, with my mom and my 14-year-old autistic nephew. I’m asking for help for my family while we wait for my mom’s and my disability applications to be approved. We have been in the process of applying since March 2022 and entirely without income because of a long list of chronic health conditions for both of us. At first, we had been surviving on the kindness of donations from my friends during this wait, but it’s to the point where I need to reach out to a wider audience for help.
My application is currently going through an appeal, which I’m told is anywhere from a 2-5 month process, and my mom’s application is still in the initial review stage. (If she gets denied the first time, she will also have to go through an appeal.)
Any money that is kindly given to my family will be used for the following:
- paying monthly bills (electricity, water, phone, car insurance)
- keeping my mom’s car from getting repossessed by the bank (that is our only car and she is the only driver in the family - I don’t have a license due to my seizure disorder)
- Gas
- Medicine (my mom already has Medicaid, but I can’t get insurance until my disability is approved, and even with GoodRX, my total for medicine per month is rather expensive)
- Doctor appointments (without insurance, seeing any of my doctors is $60-$150 per visit)
- I was just diagnosed with a tumor growing at the end of my left femur. I need to get a bone scan and further treatment ASAP.
- Household necessities that can’t be bought with food stamps
- Any emergencies that may arise
The goal is set at $10,000 for now, assuming that my appeal will take at least the full five months, since the initial application took longer than I was originally told.
