Let's Bring David home

What if….. the charming Tudor-style landmark, the Union Steamship Company General Store (now the library), had been torn down in 1978 as planned?

Thanks to David Smith, who spearheaded the initiative to save the 100 year-old historic gem, it is still standing. He is pictured here with the Bowen Island Park & Store Society (BIPASUS) treasurer Ellen Dorman, affectionately known as ‘Bowen’s Angel’. It is also due to the hard work and determination of BIPASUS that we have Crippen Park to enjoy today.

Why We Need Your Help:
As we celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the USSC General Store, we want to bring David Smith back to Bowen Island to honour his hard work and legacy and let him see the fruits of his labor. Your contributions will cover travel, food and lodging. From 1977 to 2016, David wore many hats and served our community. You can ask him when you see him. He has many memories to recall and laughs to share with you and maybe he’ll even sing the song.

Preserving Our Heritage:
The thought of the USSC General Store being torn down is a stark reminder of the importance of preserving our history. David’s efforts have saved a piece of our past, and now, as we celebrate 100 years of this iconic building, we need your help to bring David back to join in the celebration.

Your donation will not only honour David Smith but also reinforce the importance of heritage preservation. Let’s come together to celebrate our community history and the individuals who care enough to protect it.
