Team Mia

Mia is a lovely, nearly 15 year old girl,  who has faced and continues to face many challenges and is going through the toughest of journeys.
Mia was diagnosed with a optic pathway / chaism along with a hypothalamic glioma. Basically for the last 9 years Mia has been living with a brain tumour that sits in the middle of her brain. This tumour sits in the control centre of everything. It is a type of juvenile pilocytic astrocytoma which means it is a solid tumour with cystic components. Mia has completely lost her sight in both eyes due to the brain tumour.
Since January 2009,  Mia has been having issues with the cystic part, and developed more serious symptoms due to it growing. Interventions were needed in February 2019 as there continues to be lots of pressure on the brain stem,  and this is causing lots of raised pressure in the brain. This is causing Mia to be more lethargic, weak, confused and the pressure is causing more seizures. Since then the cystic part has continued to cause lots of problems for Mia.
Following lots of surgery to try and correct, sadly Mia has developed other serious health issues that may permanently restrict her and the tumour has caused lots of un reversible damage.
In Sept 2019 Mia started chemotherapy for the 3rd time but following numerous infections and clinical decline, that treatment had to be stopped.  Mia has now started a new treatment and she is on her 4th round of chemotherapy. This is the end of the line chemo that only will be offered.
Mia's condition has rapidly declined since the beginning of 2020. Noticeable changes in her speech, mobility and pretty much every area of her life.  Life for Mia has changed and it’s sad to see this once very chatty girl who loved a dance and a singsong now has become a totally different child. It’s heartbreaking. Mia does and will continue to need 24 hr support and her amazing family will continue to do all they can to make sure Mia is cared for.
One of the reasons we have created this fundraising page is to support the family throughout and making sure Mia can have private physio therapy to help get her back on her feet. To ensure that care packages could be put into place when needed and helping and supporting Mia with all her medical needs. We also would like for Mia to enjoy new hobbies.  She has a great ear for music and music therapy will help stimulate her. Obviously Mia has had many knock backs with her health but we would like to make sure that her family have the support as both mum and dad are Mia’s full time carers. It would be nice that they could also get the family time they so deserve along with Ruby, Mia’s little sister, without the worry of money.
Mia deserves so much and unfortunately,  as we all know,  the NHS are very stretched with how many hours and they can offer to support. With your kind donations,  we can make sure Mia and the family are supported throughout this very challenging time.

Thank you so very much.
