Queer SoliBox

Every person should have access to fulfil their basic needs such as food, medication and housing. A lot of people in our queer community do not have that access - especially trans and/or queer B_PoC. The queer Solibox is trying to change that, but we need your support. We redistribute funds from people who can give to those who need. If you can spare any money - however small of an amount it might seem - become a part of active queer solidarity by donating!

We've set the goal to 6000€ for now - out of our experience this is the amount of money we need to support queers for approximately six months. But there's a constant need, so we will continue to raise the goal. Also we're continuously distributing the money - which means even if it seems like there's a lot of money in the SoliBox right now, it is probably already on the way to someone who needs it.

Jeder Mensch sollte Zugang zu lebensnotwendigen Ressourcen wie Essen, Medikamenten oder Wohnraum haben. Viele Menschen in unserer queeren Community haben diesen Zugang jedoch nicht - insbesondere trans und/oder B_PoC. Die queere Solibox versucht das zu ändern, aber dafür brauchen wir eure Unterstützung. Wir verteilen Geld von Menschen die geben können zu Menschen die gerade Geld brauchen um. Wenn du etwas Geld übrig hast - egal wie klein der Betrag scheint -, dann werde Teil von praktischer queerer Solidarität, indem du spendest!

Wir haben das Spendenziel derzeit auf 6000€ gesetzt - erfahrungsgemäß ist das der Betrag, den wir brauchen, um Queers für ungefähr sechs Monate zu unterstützen. Allerdings gibt es eine konstante Nachfrage, weswegen wir das Ziel weiter anheben werden. Außerdem verteilen wir das Geld in der Solibox laufend um - wenn es so wirkt, als wäre gerade viel Geld in der Box, ist es wahrscheinlich also schon auf dem Weg zu jemandem, der es gerade braucht.

About SoliBox:

Solibox is a redistribution project that was funded three years ago and has experienced a boost since October 2020. It is independent from any state organisation and receives money only from individuals. However, this creates the problem that new donations have to come in constantly to keep the project running. This means we’re dependant on the aid of people outside of our direct environment and structures. Creating this campaign is supposed to help with that.

The concept is very simple: people can put money in the fund and others can take it out of necessity. In the beginning the SoliBox was a physical place where this happened, however these processes have moved online as the fund has opened up to pretty much everyone that needs it and not just a small social group.

The money is mostly intended to pay for food, medication and rent. However, there are no questions asked when a request is made. Each persons knows best what else besides these things is existential. There is no controlling or examining how the money is used, the concept is based on autonomy.

Nobody needs to prove why exactly they need money right now, which leads to a different way of dealing with shame. Rather than making people feel shame we try to point out that financial problems are not an individual’s fault but caused by structural issues. Because of this the SoliBox has already functioned as a source of empowerment in the past and laid the foundation for reflections and discussions.

We especially invite trans and/or B_Poc to use the fund. In practice this has been working quite well so far.

Solibox started out as a project in a small group of queers in Berlin. What brought it about were discussions between individuals from the lesbian working class who, among other things, had to find compensation for different financial situations.

An unbureaucratic, direct structure had to be created to accomplish mutual aid independent of authorities that don’t even want to acknowledge these consternations!

After a few months of the Covid 19 pandemic the idea to enlarge and open up the structure came up. During this time it became obvious that official funds weren’t available to those who are hit hardest by the financial consequences of the pandemic, like the lower working class, racialized people, non-cisgender people and of course intersections of these categories. That makes the necessity for a self-organized structure more urgent than ever.

The SoliBox is a good practical example for the theoretical concept of mutual aid. It shows that people, when given the opportunity and autonomy on their actions, indeed act in the interests of a community and projects like this one. For example: people who had to use money out of the fund earlier have become organizers in the meantime.

Because the whole structure is based on the concept of learning-by-doing (no one involved in the organizing has a specific education in this field, knowledge is gathered on self-initiative and learning together and from each other) every new person getting involved in the structure can bring in their own ideas and actively shape and change it. This means that the concept stays close to people’s needs.

Über Solibox

Die Solibox ist eine queere Umverteilungskasse, die vor drei Jahren gegründet wurde und seit Oktober 2020 neuen Aufschwung erfahren hat. Sie ist vom Staat unabhängig und erhält nur Spenden von Einzelpersonen, was leider das Problem aufwirft, dass konstant für neue Spenden gesorgt werden muss, um das Projekt am Laufen zu halten. Wir sind also auf die aktive Mithilfe von Personen auch außerhalb unseres direkten Umfelds und unserer Strukturen angewiesen. Die Einrichtung dieser festen Spendenkampagne soll dabei helfen.

Die Idee, die Struktur größer zu gestalten, kam nach ein paar Monaten Pandemie, in denen klar wurde, dass bestehende Hilfefonds 1.) nicht ausreichen und 2.) nicht für alle gleichermaßen funktionieren und/oder zugänglich sind. Deutschland ist reich, teilt aber trotzdem nicht gerne - vor Allem nicht mit den Menschen, die am meisten von den finanziellen Auswirkungen der Pandemie betroffen sind, wie die untere Arbeiterklasse, rassifizierte Menschen, nicht cis geschlechtliche Menschen und natürlich Überschneidungen dieser Kategorien.

Das Konzept ist simpel: Menschen können Geld reinlegen und andere können es sich nach Bedarf rausnehmen. Anfangs stellte die SoliBox noch einen physischen Ort dar, an dem das beschriebene Konzept stattfand, inzwischen läuft das Ganze größtenteils online ab.

Der Rahmen ist Geld für Essen, Medizin und Miete. Bei einer Anfrage, die mittlerweile über unseren Mailaccount beantwortet wird, werden allerdings keine Fragen gestellt. Was neben diesen Dingen lebenswichtig ist, können Menschen selbst entscheiden. Es wird nichts geprüft oder kontrolliert, es basiert komplett auf Selbstbestimmung.

Der Umgang mit Geld ist hier anders: es muss nicht nachgewiesen werden, warum die Person gerade Geld braucht, so entsteht ein anderer Umgang mit Scham. Viel lieber machen wir sichtbar, dass finanzielle Probleme struktureller Natur sind, und Menschen nicht dafür als Individuum dafür verantwortlich sind. Dadurch hat die SoliBox des öfteren schon für Betroffene einen Empowermenteffekt gehabt und auch Reflektionen zu Betroffenheiten angestoßen, die auch gemeinsam diskutiert werden konnten.

Insbesondere laden wir immer wieder trans und/oder B_Poc ein, die Kasse zu nutzen. Dieser Schwerpunkt funktioniert in der Praxis bisher auch gut.

Am Anfang war die Solibox nur eine Umverteilungskasse innerhalb einer kleinen Gruppe von Queers in Berlin.

Grundlage der Gründung waren damals Diskussionen aus der lesbischen Arbeiter_innenklasse, welche u.A. Ausgleich für unterschiedliche finanzielle Situationen finden mussten.

Eine unbürokratische, direkte Struktur musste her, um gegenseitige Hilfe zu schaffen, die nicht von Autoritäten abhängt, welche diese Betroffenheiten nicht einmal anerkennen will!

Die Solibox zeigt direkt Alternativen auf - sie dient als gutes Praxisbeispiel für das Prinzip der gegenseitigen Hilfe und dass Menschen, wenn ihnen Wahl und Selbstbestimmung gelassen werden, sehr wohl auch im Sinne einer Gemeinschaft und in Einbezug von solchen Projekten handeln können und werden. So sind inzwischen z.B. Menschen, die anfangs Geld aus der SoliBox nehmen mussten, selbst Organisator_innen.

Da die ganze Struktur auf dem Prinzip learning-by-doing beruht (niemand hat eine spezifische Ausbildung in diese Richtung, Wissen wird sich selbst angeeignet und wir lernen miteinander, uns zu organisieren und zu helfen) kann jede neu dazustoßende Person ihre eigenen Ideen mit in die Organisation einbringen. So bleibt das Konzept bedürfnisnah.
