Since 2015, the political movement against LGBTQIA+ people has grown significantly. In America, there are more than 470 anti-LGBTQIA+ bills. Including banning drag performances, the use of the pronouns they and them in schools and gender-affirming health care for transgender youth.

These developments worry me. These developments mean that human rights are being violated. This is not only happening in America. There are also anti-LGBTQIA+ movements in European countries. In Poland are LGBTQIA+ free zones and in Hungary is a ban on the representation of homosexuals. Worldwide, there are 68 countries where homosexuality and homosexual acts are still punishable. In some even with the death sentence.

I want to take action. In the summer of 2023, I will walk a challenging hike to raise awareness and money to support the work of the ACLU. The ACLU is an American NGO that defends human rights nationwide. Also, specifically LGBTQIA+ rights.

I need your help. Show that you stand for queer rights. Show that you are an ally. It's not enough to just attend pride or change the company logo colour. Show that you support the queer community when it matters. The goal is to raise $100,000 before the end of Amsterdam Pride in August 2023. Sinds 2015 is de Amerikaanse politieke beweging tegen LHBTIQA+ mensen aanzienlijk gegroeid. In Amerika zijn er meer dan 450 anti-LHBTIQA+ wetsvoorstellen. Waaronder het verbieden van drag optredens, het gebruik van de voornaamwoorden zoals die en diens op scholen en genderbevestigende gezondheidszorg voor transgenderjongeren.

Ik maak mij zorgen om deze ontwikkelingen. Deze ontwikkelingen betekenen dat mensenrechten worden ingeperkt. Dit gebeurt niet alleen in Amerika. In verschillende Europese landen zijn er ook anti-LHBTIQA+ bewegingen. In Polen zijn er LHBTIQA+ vrije zones zijn en in Hongarije is een verbod op representatie van homoseksuelen. Wereldwijd zijn er 68 landen waar homoseksualiteit en homoseksuele handelingen nog altijd strafbaar zijn.

Ik wil in actie komen. In de zomer van 2023 zal ik een uitdagende trektocht doen om aandacht te vragen en geld op te halen om het werk van ACLU te ondersteunen. ACLU is een Amerikaanse NGO die nationaal mensenrechten verdedigt. Ook specifiek LHBTIQA+ rechten.

Ik heb jouw hulp nodig. Laat zien dat je staat voor queer rechten. Laat zien dat je een bondsgenoot bent. Het is niet voldoende om alleen aanwezig zijn bij de pride of het bedrijfslogo van kleur te veranderen. Laat zien dat je de queer community steunt wanneer het erop aankomt.
