Exit Strategy Life Preserver
Donation protected
We are here to do hard things. We are also here to support our friends and chosen family through hard things. This is one of those times. No one should be trapped in a position that crushes their soul and light.
If you visit the ocean floor in early to mid-November when the first full moon of the year rises, you’ll find piles of molted crab shells. They stand as a testament to a community that supports its members with a safe place to grow and change. As the moon rises, spider crabs pile on top of one another to begin their molting. They shield the most vulnerable crabs—mid-molt—with their bodies, protecting them from predators and the unknowable dangers of the ocean. The crabs who have not yet molted create a barrier, and when it’s their turn to molt—to become soft and vulnerable—others take their place to create that safe space and shield them.
Why are we talking about crabs?
Stability, safety, and support are an essential part of recovery—of growth—and of our community. The humans that make up that community support us when we are vulnerable. And when they are vulnerable, and we’re able, we hold them.
Our community has recently been deeply wounded. It’s as much about what was done as how it was done. Some of us have an escape. Others, limited by financial and career resources, are stuck. Despite losing trust, stability, and safety in their career, they don’t have the means to escape. They are retraumatized every day as they give their talents and skills to an organization that is doing nothing to support their light.
Employees who choose to willingly leave an organization are not eligible for unemployment benefits. This makes that decision extremely scary, and seemingly impossible for some.
We—as a community—have the opportunity to provide support for these incredible humans who have supported us. We are rallying around them to provide financial support as they decide what comes next for them.
Every dollar donated will be distributed by designated Beneficiaries Managers with love and oversight. Your donations will help cover living expenses—housing, utilities, transportation, meals, and self-care—as our beloved friends transition from their previous role into a new position that engages their light and supports their recovery.
As this ragtag collective of extraordinary Queerios keeps proving: there is strength in numbers. We can use our resources—our shells—to protect and fiercely guard those who are undergoing change. Those who are, in a sense, molting the old for the new.
Pitching in what you can—even what you may think is a small amount—will help create a life preserver for folx that desperately need to escape an organization that has shown their true colors.
When we work together, our impact exponentially increases. [If crabs aren’t your thing, think Voltron.]
On behalf of this community and the beneficiaries of this fund: thank you.
