Hey there,
I hope you are keeping well considering the current circumstances. As the world tries to make sense of this new era of panic and grief, we feel more compelled now than ever to turn to each other for comfort and care. This, however, can be an even more frightening time for Queer Tamil youth who have been displaced from their homes and are lacking government support (due to immigration and unemployment status). Since the shutdown of all creative and community spaces across the city, displaced Queer youth are feeling more isolated and alone than ever before.
For this reason, I'm trying to raise money to support Queer Tamil youth living in transitional or precarious housing in the GTA. Funds raised will go towards supporting with access to fresh groceries, medication, transportation, creative supplies, cellphone bills and therapy/mental health counseling. I understand it's a tough time for many of us right now but please show your support where you can so these youth can be reminded that they are loved.
A note- this is not a charity. Emergency support funds are community-driven initiatives that aim to redistribute wealth in times of crisis so it can support the most marginalized among us. This is more than charity- this is collective care.
