Quarantine without famine

Donation protected
Dear friends around the world: (Get ready for a semi-long read :D )

My name is Julieth Lozano, I am a Colombian Opera singer living in London for 5 years now.  I am also one of the artists in quarantine getting all my work cancelled and wondering how the future profession will shape after this pandemic.

Lots of us have the possibility to stay at home and reach out to our savings, families, sponsors, foundations and some, even to their government. We fear our future and we are trying our best to keep positive....but there are lots of people that don't have that same chance.

Colombia is now under quarantine as many other places in the world, and there is a mind blowing chunk of the population that were already vulnerable and will now have their survival at risk not just because of the virus but because of the lack of work that translates into food due to quarantine.

My friend Laura Mosquera, (An Opera singer too!) has started an initiative in Medellín, Colombia. Her dad has been working as a salesman in the food market for 60 years and she has been single handed trying to get as many resources as possible to the population that will have no income during this time. Either, households with terribly low income, people over 70s confined at home, or workers that live dependant on a day by day income usually with no social guaranties, this will force them to go outside of their homes because otherwise they will starve. Increasing, of course, the risk of infection.

She has already reached 65 households!!!! And her initiative has inspired us to go a bit further. As well as trying to reach more households in Medellin, we want to possibly extend to other cities and  reach out to our indigenous communities. We want to reach as many families as possible and are striving to a 1000.

This grocery list can give you an idea of what £10 can get you in my country:

- 1 bottle of oil
- 1 package of arepas (If you don't know what an arepa is, you have not live yet ;) )  / 1kg of corn flour
- 1 kg of beans
- 12 eggs
- 125gr chocolate
- 1 kg of lentils
- 1 kg of pasta
- 1 tuna can
- 1 kg of rice
- 8 toilet rolls paper
- 1/2 kg of panela (whole cane sugar)
- A bar of soap (to wash your hands..Karaaanaaaaviruuuussss)

Each donation will be used to feed families in need. Together with the program "Fe en Colombia" we'll be able to, reach Caqueta, Putumayo and Amazonas. We'll have proof of every penny spent, bills, and evidence of how it reaches the families, and as this is a program with the national army, they'll be able to help us deliver the food in this quarantine time.
This is the program's webpage for any extra info: https://www.cgfm.mil.co/es/tags/programa-fe-en-colombia

We are two individuals trying to help as many families as we can and we can't do it without all of your help. I am aware that this is a very difficult situation for everyone in the world but a little goes really far....Now that we have experienced a bit of what quarantine feels like, imagine having to live it with absolute no security of what your next meal will be.

I thank you all and send you all my love and light wherever you are,

Thank you!
¡Gracias!
Dankeschön!
Grazie mille!
Merci beaucoup!

Ps. We will update with any information of what resources are available depending on the cities we'll target and there will be evidence of everything we purchase for them. If any of you wonders, we are a team of three so far, Laura Mosquera, Isabel Arango and myself, all of us Colombian musicians. This is my webpage in case you need some info www.juliethlozano.co.uk

pdate 1: We are still working with the Program "Fe en Colombia", and we have identified vulnerable population in Chocó, Colombia, that Laura will be focusing on as go fund me only allows donations in credit or debit cards. All the information of this is in her facebook page.
Also with the Embera Katio community in the capital, a population that is needing our help too . We will divide the funds we manage to collect in the next week or so and will try to help as many as possible.
If you are curious about the Embera Katio situation, have a look at the https://www.facebook.com/colectivoemberabakata/

Update 2: This week we will do the first transfer to both organisations. I will try to cover as much as I can of the transaction costs and hopefully by the end of this week or beginning of the nest, we'll start sending the groceries to the families.
