Help Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana!
Hello dear friends! I am home and looking forward to getting back to helping our community! Donors, thank you for your continuing gifts needed for our neighbors, friends and families. Volunteers, thank you for all your deliveries! It was wonderful that you hit Montegut, Port Aux Chenes, Chauvin, Dulac, West Houma and East Houma. Also, a trip was made to Grand Isle due to urgent requests. This week we will again hit East Houma, Montegut and Port Aux Chenes, and Dulac. We are also seeking information on the situation in Dularge. If you are in Dularge or have information on needs of those in the area, please call directly at [phone redacted]. If I do not answer, please text me as that is the easiest way to make contact.
While it is a wonderful experience meeting and delivering supplies to our communities, we do depend on donations from donors both within our communities and outside our areas. Our call has been heard far and wide and has been answered by those with no connection to our state or country. However, it is time that we take stock of where we are in recovery and rebuild. It was a slow week in donations and while we are still able to make deliveries this week, I fear that our ability to continue on a weekly basis will slow while in fact the needs are increasing. Fall is here and Winter is coming, and while our Falls and Winters in Louisiana are generally mild, supplies for this time of year are still needed. Blankets, small outdoor grills, space heaters, batteries and garbage bags are needed. Also, the need for hygienic supplies and school supplies as well as non perishables continue as we wait for continued government assistance. Some have been contacted and confirmed eligible for temporary housing but are still waiting for follow up and seeking suitable areas to place a trailer or RV.
I have done a inventory of our supplies this evening and am sharing with you the result:
7 8x10 tarps
5 Blankets
25 Toothbrushes
24 tubes Toothpaste
4 brushes
9 packages wet wipes
200 pencils
1 small box of various school supplies
10 cases Water
Toys (Tennis racket, Black and Decker tool toy)
1 small child’s toilet seat (sanitized)
1 Adult women’s Bike
2 boxes childrens Books
2 large bags of sheets to be sorted
18 Towels packaged in two each
1 Small grill
One moderate load of non perishables
Two boxes of miscellaneous items to be sorted
1 new yoga massage mat
So, as you can see we are truly running low on supplies. Please, with Thanksgiving, the change in weather, and Christmas coming, let’s pull it together and make sure everyone has at least the bare essentials.
If you have extra in your wallet, we implore you to donate to a lifeline for your fellow human beings.
We, the all volunteer relief group at Help Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana!, are dedicated to making sure that all appropriate donations go directly to recipients in need.
New volunteers and potential and current donors are invited to visit our small but effective operation. Generally, we have one sort and pack a week on Sunday afternoon with multiple deliveries throughout the following week. If you are interested in visiting please call Kelly Westbrook at [phone redacted]. We work on our sorting and packaging at 314 Lansdown Dr Houma, LA 70360 in the Sugarwood subdivision.
As the holidays near we will encourage a toy drive. If it is in your heart to help begin this effort, I welcome you to be the first to donate.
We still have our Go Fund Me running, accept Amazon packages at the address above as well as keep a Amazon Wish List, and also encourage shopping at Walmart.com. If you prefer to shop yourself and support local we encourage that method and ask that you advise via call or text if you are making a drop off.
Thank you so much for all you have done thus far and look forward to celebrating this holiday season with the gift of giving!
Sincerely,
Kelly
