"Be the change that you wish to see in the world" by Mahatma Gandhi has always been one of my favorite quotes of all time. This quote means so much to me and speaks to all of the work that I seek to do in my future. For me, I cannot see this world positively changing and me not being a part of it. I truly believe that God has put me in this world to make a very significant impact to all those that I come across.
I am a Senior year student at The Sage Colleges and of all the things that I've done while getting involved here on campus throughout my four years, the last thing on my bucket list of goals left to do is a sort of study abroad and/or service project in an outside country. The programs of Operation Crossroads Africa are designed to promote understanding of Africa and the African Diaspora based on the belief that one can truly enter another culture only by living and working in it. This Summer, I seek to go to West Africa (specific city not finalized) and submerge myself into a culture that I am completely unfamiliar with. While there, I will participate in a community service project where I will be helping different less fortunate communities within their education system.
For me, to participate in this project and the overall experience means the world to me. Ever since I was younger, I've known that I was born to give back to others. The work that I do now helping high school students potentially get into College and further their life after school encourages me to make a difference in my community. While away, I will make a difference in another way by helping individuals in less fortunate communities throughout different services and projects. Knowing the history of the Operation Crossroads Program, I really believe that this will be a life-changing experience that will ultimately elevate me and my ability to serve others for the better.
All of this said, this life-changing program has a fee of $3800, which does not include the travel fee to the orientation in New York or personal spending funds while I am in Africa. Unfortunately, this is just not in my budget and I am unable to afford this on my own which is why I am asking for a total of $4200 to help secure my spot in this program, as well as my travel to orientation. I view all of this as part of the process that God has designed for me and my ultimate purpose here on Earth which is to give back to others, especially those who are less fortunate than myself. Please help me overcome this obstacle within my process and take the next step in the journey that God has ordained for me by helping me get to Africa and really reach my dreams.
Help me to actually be the change that I wish to see in this world, I greatly appreciate all of your support!!!
