It's a sad truth in our country that while many people go to bed hungry each night, there is an abundance of food, much of which ends up in the dumpster behind grocery stores. The Brookline Food Rescue sees a solution to that issue, a way to connect people to the food they need for nourishment. They've helped fix this problem on a daily basis for years They've been doing this by using their own personal assets to rent vans to transport the food. However, now they are no longer able to do this and must rely on the community to help them continue their mission.
The ultimate goal is to buy a van for $18,000. We’ve paid $4,000 towards it but it is not enough to take the van. We applied and will continue to apply for grants.
in the meantime, any contribution to help us get towards our goal of taking the van would be greatly appreciated.
Those who benefit from the program include school children to seniors living in subsidized housing.
Since I work at two of these sites, I have seen firsthand how grateful people are to have this food, how it takes a little bit of weight off their shoulders and lets them enjoy shopping without having to worry about going over budget. Each site the Rescue's leader will call me and tell me to fill boxes for families of six who have no food or families who just came to America. She will then pick these boxes up and deliver them to the families. We also open our sites in subsidized housing to the public. I recently posted on Everything Free JP to come by to share in the abundance of food and many people stopped by, grateful for this opportunity.
