Zackary Hunter Johnston passed away on January 20, 2016 at the young age of 23. Zack was an avid hunter and loved all-things nature. Zack left this world doing what he loved. While on a duck hunt Zack faced cold snowy weather and fell through shelf ice and died of hypothermia. Before being found, a team of search and rescue workers and a helicopter searched for Zack for several hours, leaving his family and friends to wonder if he was still alive. Unfortunately
hypothermia had taken his life in just minutes.
Zack was a hometown boy, a young man everyone loved and admired. The whole town of Scott City came out to support his family and friends. One of the amazing gifts that came out of this terrible tragedy was a group of local men that came together and started a fund in order to purchase an InspireThermal Drone. This drone can be used by a number of public safety depts. Fire depts. can use it to search for hot spots in house fires, Law enforcement can use it to search for fugitives, but MOST importantly search and rescue will use it for missing people. This drone, created by DroneNerds, cost $11,000. We are still quite a ways from the total cost. This drone includes FLIR thermal imaging technology, the most popular brand of thermal imaging worldwide along with a dual screen camera, and extended flight time. This drone will be donated to the Scott County Search and Rescue Team, but will be available for use in all of Southeast Missouri as the need presents itself. In honor of Zack, it will be named ZJ, again this drone will benefit EVERYONE. This advanced infrared technology will allow for expedited rescues. We are asking that you help Zack’s community raise money to purchase this drone and help save precious lifes. Let's honor ZJ and help families in their most desperate hour.
