David v. Goliath: Single dad needs your help!
In 2015 my wife left me and our 2 children for a new life. Our custody agreement post-divorce has us with 50/50 custody although she refuses to see her children except for every other weekend and holidays. A year ago she found herself a rich, young man and moved an hour away from her children into his McMansion. In a years’ time, she quit her own job coincidently at the time she was offered a HUGE promotion, married said Rich man and created a new family; new baby and all in less than a year’s time. She now lives in the lap of luxury as a stay-at-home mom to THEIR baby and it is only recently that they decided they no longer wanted to pay me child support. I have now been served for full custody of the kids, child support, health insurance (which I already pay) and to top it off she wants me to pay their lawyer fees. In order to fight for my kids I have to shell out $5K for a retainer for a decent lawyer. I don't even have that much in savings – savings I put aside for a house for me and the kids sometime in the future.
If she does not win full custody they will still evaluate the child support she currently gives me. Since she does not work anymore, and in TX you can’t consider her husband’s salary ($400K/yr), they will look at what she could earn or even what an average salary would give. This would drastically change the little support I do receive. I know the battle is just to hurt me financially so that she can win and her husband no longer has to pay me her child support. Like most parents, I would do anything – anything to keep my children. Yes, even create a Go Fund Me account. In this situation I have no shame to ask, nay plead for your help! I have Right on my side, just not the money to go to trial. I work, I go to school, I go to parent/teacher meetings, I take them to the doctor, I make sure they do their school work, I attend their sports events. Since Jan 1st to the end of this school year the kids slept at my house for 119 nights and she only took them for a total of 26 nights – at her request. Sadly, the legal system only works for those with money in cases like this as her husband has the means to make this be a long fight….I don’t have the means. It feels like ‘David v. Goliath’. Help me, by donating what you can, and be MY ‘sling and stone’.
