The Serrano Family
Donation protected
Hello Neighbors,
I am writing to ask for your help. Many of you know Jose Serrano. He has been your FedEx driver for well over 5 years, and over the years he has become a friend. He and his family suffered a terrible tragedy when their home burned to the ground at the start of this Summer. It was weeks before we caught up and I learned of this. Jose is always pleasant; it wasn’t until I asked about his son Isaac’s 6th birthday that I noticed his demeanor change. He explained how they lost everything, without renters insurance. I remember being particularly struck by his sadness over the non-material things; his wedding album, his son’s favorite toy, etc. Even in sharing his grief Jose was stoic, even apologetic for venting. It was heartbreaking.
I had hoped to do something for the Serrano family sooner, I feel terrible it took me this long! When we recently caught up he mentioned working holiday weekend shifts as they hope to move out of a relative’s home soon. They have their eyes on a new apartment near their son Isaac’s school and he is working overtime to save for the down payment. I plan to help, and I hope you will contribute.
If you haven’t had the chance to get to know Jose I hope you do now. He has quietly, diligently, and kindly supported this neighborhood for years. I hope you will help me in supporting him now. Any donation amount would be incredibly helpful and appreciated.
Sincerely yours,
