So I’m doing Weymouth 70.3 Ironman this Sunday ( like leaving things to last minute!) for those that don’t know it will involve

1.2 mile sea swim

56 mile cycle

13.1 mile run

I have a dear friend Jake , whose brother Alex ( 42 , father of two young kids) has been dealt an awful hand this year. Jake has kindly provided the details of his illness and current condition below.

I was hoping to raise some funds to try ease the stress in some tiny way.

I know life is tough just now financially for a lot of people and everywhere you look it seems a cause needs supporting, but if people are up for showing their support for me in helping out Jake and his family then I will be hugely grateful.

Hoping to do the Ironman in 6hours so thought a tenner a minute was a good number ? And the funds will go to helping make Alex’s home life more comfortable, all he wants right now is to be home with his family.

The story of Alex’s condition:

Alex has Glioblastoma, diagnosed in February 2025. It’s the most aggressive form of brain cancer and he has the most aggressive and treatment-resistant form of it.

He’s undergone a craniotomy to remove as much of the tumour as possible and round of chemo and radiotherapy which has ultimate been unsuccessful. He’s now doing another kind of more aggressive chemotherapy and other medication to manage seizures and brain swelling. All of which have decimated his quality of life, his mobility and his ability to do the things he loves and spend quality time with his two children. Following a cluster of seizures and admission into hospital, our aim is for him to be able to return home to his family which will require some changes to their home and physio therapy for him to maintain as much independence as possible.
