Break the Cycle

We are a student-run group, dedicated to reducing period poverty, reducing period waste, and de-stigmatizing periods starting in London Ontario.  In Canada, it is estimated that people who menstruate will spend an average of $6000 on menstrual hygiene products over their lifetime. For some, this necessary product can prove to be financially inaccessible, therefore our group aims to reduce the burden of period poverty in our community. 

We plan to support individuals with a supply of menstrual products. The materials for each menstruator would include  either: 3 months worth of disposable period products, 6 reusable cloth pads, or 3 menstrual cups. To support each menstruator, around $30 is estimated.

With your help, we aim to expand the duration of our support or include a larger number of individuals. In order to provide menstruators with the autonomy to make informed decisions about their menstrual health, we aim to give them the opportunity to choose the products that might work best for their individual lifestyles. We recognize that experiences are individualized and no single option works for all. With each option, accurate information will be provided to promote informed decision making.

Our distribution strategy involves reaching out to community partners in the London community who support vulnerable and low SES populations.

We will create posters, pamphlets and infographics. We will include information about menstruation, correcting misconceptions and myths, information about period waste, period poverty, and sustainability. Our campaign will be rooted in research, evidence and lived experiences in order to avoid misinformation.
