My good pal and comrade Rox is getting top surgery on December 9th and needs community support in order to pay for what insurance won't cover. Gender affirming care is so so so important, and yet Texas has emerged as one of the states pursuing the most aggressive anti-trans agenda putting access to this life-saving care in jeopardy. We're calling on community to help support Rox so they can get the care they need now before things get even more dire in Texas.
Get to know Rox:
Rox is beloved community organizer and activist who is really involved in the Austin DSA's trans and intersex rights and bodily autonomy campaign (TIRBA). Rox has testified before the Texas State Legislature, organized grassroots campaigns to defend trans and intersex lives, and has been an integral part of Austin's political advocacy community.
They spend time:
-fighting anti-trans bills
-strategizing how to resist the laws that have passed
-fighting for trans liberation in Texas
Why now?
Rox came out 7 years ago and has known they've wanted top surgery that whole time. This is the first time they've had a stable job with health insurance that would cover enough of the cost of surgery to make it feasible. They can't wait any longer because of new laws in Texas further infringing on the rights of trans people, and there is a very real possibility this care might become completely inaccessible. Also, after years of binding, it is taking a toll on their body and causing them physical pain. Top surgery would fix this in so many ways!
