Hi my name is Lore fellow Jamaican living in the UK. My family and community in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, have been severely affected by the recent disaster caused by Melissa. St. Elizabeth is one of the hardest-hit areas, many homes, including my family’s, have lost their roofs. Most of the supermarkets are closed, and essential services are either down or inaccessible.
To make matters worse, most people do not have access to fresh, clean water. It’s becoming harder each day for families to find safe water to drink, cook, or even bathe.
I’ve been trying to send financial help, but it’s been nearly impossible. Many Western Union locations are closed, and the few that are open are outside the parish. Even then, most of the main roads are blocked, so there’s little to no transportation available to get there. ATMs are down in several areas as well, leaving people with no access to cash or basic supplies.
Because of this, I’m planning to send a barrel with food, clothing, and other essentials to help my family and others in the community get through the next few months. It may not be much, I can’t fix the roofs or replace everything that’s been lost but at least it’s something that can bring a bit of relief and hope during this difficult time. Any little will help massively. Thank you to all that will contribute.
