Embrace Badjao

This summer I was a part of the Embrace Badjao team. I travelled to Davao City in the Philippines to aid in the charity’s mission of providing education and relief to the Badjao tribe.

As an ethnic minority group, the Badjao community experience high levels of discrimination and exclusion from society. This results in them often living in unfit conditions, without basic sanitation, running water or electricity. Many Badjao go through life without a formal education and struggle to find employment, making it difficult to feed their families.

Embrace Badjao aims to improve the livelihood of the community by developing the educational capabilities and removing other barriers within the community itself. I am proud to have aided in this process this summer and been lucky enough to work with the infectiously positive Badjao people. I hope to return in the near future and continue to be a part of the Embrace team.
