It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of Tonantzin’s passing. She completed her journey through the death portal yesterday, 10/30/2025 just after midnight.

As we are grieving the loss of our sister, mother, daughter, Lita, and friend, many folks have been asking how they can support us.

One of her final wishes was for our family to make a trip to Mexico. She had hoped we could all go together. Sadly, this trip will be to spread her ashes and to celebrate her life.

Any left over money will be a financial support for those of us who don’t have bereavement leave and to cover any other costs that arise when a loved one passes.

My brother says god only gives the biggest battles to the strongest warriors. If you knew my sister you knew she was a fierce activist, a mama bear with an epic sense of humor. She loved to laugh and she loved hard.

She lived and thrived by the community she created and she died surrounded by love.

She is the only person I know who throws themselves a goodbye party. It’s just not something we do in this culture but my sister never lived by anyone else’s rules. Just ask my parents. She forged her own way, even in death.

Her goodbye party was one of the hardest days of my life. But it was also one of the most beautiful. We got to feel all the love that surrounds her and all of us.

You all showed up and showed out for her. It was absolutely beautiful to witness.

In her death we learned even more about her and she taught us so much. She loved her family and friends fiercely and would do anything for anyone. Even people she didn’t know. She would fight for those who couldn’t fight for themselves.

Her life wasn’t an easy one, but it was well lived and well loved.

Our community has been our greatest asset. We couldn’t have done it without you all. And truly there are no words to express the gratitude in our hearts.
