WE REACHED OUR GOAL!!  THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATIONS!  IT SHOWS THAT THE COMMUNITY CARES ABOUT THE SAFETY OF IT'S RESIDENTS AS MUCH AS WE DO!

The Pure Water project was announced over a decade ago but many people know it by it's former name, Toilet to Tap.  It's a system of turning raw sewage into drinking water and details about the system can be found on the City's website.

Community leaders are very opposed to the route that was chosen for the raw sewage pipeline associated with this system.  The line would run along Clairemont, north on Genesee Ave, east on Nobel Drive, and North on Town Center Drive.

We also have concerns about the high pressure of the line, how shallowly it is being constructed and where it is being run.  This line will contain raw sewage, which has bacteria, Hepatitis, drugs and toxins.  A smelly raw sewage line should not be placed in the heart of ANY residential neighborhood!   What will happen in the event of an earthquake?  Our engineers say it will rupture like a small explosion and people may be hurt.  Raw sewage will spew.   Yes, there is a shut off valve, but it's the moment of rupture and the next 5 minutes  that we worry about.  Why put residents at risk?

The City has told us before that their pipes are safe and will never leak or rupture, but the existing gravity fed sewer line is leaking in our canyon and the jet fuel line to Miramar is also leaking.  They say the chance of this new high pressure raw sewage line exploding due to an accidental dig is alarmist and remote, but they just closed down a portion of I-5 near La Jolla Village Drive due to an accidental dig that caused the rupture of a clean water line.   Who are you going to believe?

With the support of the people who will be MOST affected by this raw sewage line, let's show them that we have a voice! We were able to file a lawsuit within the 30 day deadline.  The EIR was insufficient and should have considered alternate routes.  We want to send the message to City that health and safety come FIRST.   Thank you to all the donors who made this possible.  You can find updates on our website at ImproveUC.org or in the UCCA newsletter each month.
