Pump Up the Jubilee
Donation protected
The Exbury petrol pumps are over 70 years old and a particular feature of the village. Also of significant historic interest they are in need of restoration, to increase our enjoyment of them and preserve them for future generations. Without restoration they will continue to decay and in time become unrecoverable.
The pumps are Beckmeter ‘M’ model, manufactured by Beck & Co in London who began making petrol pumps in 1932. They feature a ‘clock-dial’ meter and elegant glass globes which are currently missing.
The Exbury Parish Council is raising sufficient funds to undertake a full restoration, bringing them back to their original condition by a specialist restorer. This is an exciting project to commemorate the 2022 Jubilee, becoming a highlight of our village celebrations.
The restoration will be performed by specialist company UK Restoration who recently worked on similar pumps for Preston House in Hampshire. They will be dismantled, sandblasted, all the original parts refurbished and repainted. The process will be fully documented, recorded and presented in a commemorative book with a list of donors that will be distributed to each of them. We are also planning to attach a small plaque to the pumps to mark the restoration and Jubilee.
The total cost of the restoration is £6,000 and we have received generous contributions from both the Exbury Estate and from the NFDC and Parish Councils. Please support this fundraising and share with others that may have an interest in preserving our unique pumps.
*Please note that any contributions over our target of £2,000 will be allocated to the cost of the Exbury Jubilee Sunday lunch on the 5th ofJune*
